Housing construction in Porta Nuova

Porta Nuova – a new district in Milan setting new standards in green building

In the luxury bathrooms, high-end architecture and Axor bathroom collections go hand in hand

When it comes to Porta Nuova, Milan is reinventing itself and setting new standards in modern urban planning: the new neighbourhood, which is situated between two of the city's major railway stations, dominates the skyline and is also impressive from an ecological perspective thanks to its LEED-certified high-rise buildings. The eco-label for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” certifies compliance with demanding sustainable construction criteria. Axor bathroom mixers feature in many of the bathrooms, perfectly rounding off the concept of modern luxury living. The harmonious symbiosis of design quality and the sustainable use of water blends in seamlessly with the range of style worlds found in the apartments, not to mention the overall concept of Porta Nuova.

The Torre Solea high-rise apartment building is located in the centre of the new district, which has given 290,000 square metres of industrial wasteland a new lease of life. The 15-storey building is a combination of the traditional and the modern, of high-rise apartment style and town house. The apartments feature four furnishing styles, which are skilfully combined with Axor Citterio, Axor Citterio M, Axor Starck or Axor Montreux in the bathrooms. Timeless, simple elegance, the finest materials and top-quality furnishings are dominant features of the architecture and interior design.

The single lever basin mixers from Axor Citterio M emphasise the urban chic style, as reflected in the exclusive, dark-tiled marble bathrooms; while Axor Montreux 2-handle mixers perfectly complement the classic line of the black and white marble bathrooms. Axor Starck blends in with the purism of the bright bathrooms featuring free-standing bath tubs. Many of the bathrooms offer a breathtaking view from their full-length windows or direct access to the spacious loggia.

The Torre Solea and other high-rise apartment buildings are surrounded by parks and inviting squares. These also characterise the pedestrian-friendly, green concept. The green building technologies range from the use of renewable energy sources, environmentally-friendly construction materials and recycling through to the collection of rainwater. This is illustrated in the already award-winning “Bosco verticale”: an innovative irrigation system, which also makes use of grey water, keeps the “Vertical Forest” on the outside surfaces of the high-rise residential building green. In the adjacent bathrooms, Axor bathroom mixers celebrate the sustainable use of water. The durability of their timeless design notably supports the concept of sustainable construction.
