The Axor Urquiola bathroom collection: fantasy and emotion invite the creation of fusion.

Patricia Urquiola – creative design star from Spain

Patricia Urquiola works as a designer and architect for leading international companies, and Italian companies in particular. Born in Spain, she now lives in the design metropolis of Milan and her “Studio Urquiola” embodies a modern style featuring feminine accents and unexpected elements. From furniture to tiles, lighting to fabrics and rugs to bathroom mixers: Patricia Urquiola's distinctive style combines a minimalistic approach with floral references, creating designs that are simplistic yet playful. With sensuous extravagance, she mixes styles, patterns and materials to suit her own personal taste, stimulating curiosity and emotion in design enthusiasts all over the world. What Patricia Urquiola creates, others want to touch and own.

Creations for the senses and an inspiring mix of styles

The entire brand world is scrambling to get its hands on the experimental creativity that is impressively displayed by her works at furniture trade shows. Many of her works are also exhibited as design pieces, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. International media regularly choose Patricia Urquiola as the designer of the year – or even the decade. In 2011 she won the German Design Award, the most prestigious official design award in the country, for a wash basin from the Axor Urquiola bathroom collection. She launched this in 2008, in collaboration with designer brand Axor – under the motto “Awakening your senses”. She also received a further accolade from Madrid: the Spanish king Juan Carlos I awarded her the “Order of Isabella the Catholic (Orden de Isabel la Católica)” for her services to art.

Multi-talented Spanish designer with “amore” for Italy

Patricia was born in the Spanish city of Oviedo in 1961. She went on to study architecture in Madrid and graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan, working with Italian design legend Achille Castiglione. She started her career with luxury label De Padova. Before opening her own design studio in Milan in 2001, Urquiola gained ten years’ experience in product and interior design, architecture and concept creation – among the very best in the furnishings and design industry. Her powerful design artistry attracted attention far beyond her chosen home of Italy – turning her into a star designer. Patricia Urquiola currently employs around 40 people.
