Phoenix Design has been designing products for Hansgrohe SE for many years: Andreas Haug, Tom Schönherr, Manfred Dorn and Harald Lutz.

Phoenix Design

For many years, the face of Hansgrohe has been shaped by the Phoenix Design team: Andreas Haug, Tom Schönherr, Manfred Dorn and Harald Lutz. Both are refreshingly unpretentious. They measure the success of their work by the people at whom their products are aimed. Although the creative minds prefer to work in the background, they are thrilled with the many awards that their design workshop has won.

Whether mixers or televisions, showers or mobile telephones, Phoenix Design always follows a modern, clear line and adds emotion to create desirability. The latest example: the designers are confident that today’s bathrooms should not be characterised by minimalism alone. They therefore add a surprisingly sensual quality through their PuraVida range of mixers and showers.

hansgrohe PuraVida – pure, clear, sensual

How would you like a mixer that moves and amazes us? A mixer that plays with the colour white, radiates clarity and freshness and has a smoothly elegant body? PuraVida. Life is also full of sparkle, as reflected in its surfaces – a contrast for the senses. PuraVida – life can be so simple, easy to grasp, purely poetical. The product line comprises a broad range of showers and accessories – including those from Phoenix Design of course.

hansgrohe showers – more fun with water for everyone

Anyone who showers with a hansgrohe product experiences the work of the designers Andreas Haug and Tom Schönherr – Phoenix Design created the entire hansgrohe shower range, including the global success Raindance with which Phoenix Design and hansgrohe has redefined showering: a hand shower that turns proportions on their head with its extra large jet disc and short handle. And that turns everyday showering into a sensual experience. By mixing the water with air, the usual spaghetti-like jets become soft, voluminous rain drops. Without a doubt: Raindance has revolutionised showering!

AXOR Montreux – time recaptured

A stylish bathroom collection that takes us back to the early 20th century, capturing the Zeitgeist of the Belle Epoque and its romantic spas. AXOR Montreux is both a homage to the sophisticated spa resort on Lake Geneva and a modern collection. Whether in a traditional or modern environment, the authentic design of this collection always provides an authentically styled bathroom. Thanks to Hansgrohe’s expertise, an abundance of contemporary comfort is also guaranteed.

AXOR Uno² – the classic minimalist

AXOR Uno² is the successful spin-off from AXOR Uno. A truly individual mixer collection. With its simplistic, timeless and slimline design, AXOR Uno2 is the perfect addition to any environment. Whether glamorous or discrete, purist or extravagant, Bauhaus or post-modern, there is always room for us to develop. This is just one of many reasons why AXOR Uno2 has long been a classic design.

Phoenix Design – the biographies

The history of Phoenix Design as a think tank and the biographies of the two founders are closely linked to Germany’s design history. Even at frogdesign, a legendary design office in Stuttgart, Andreas Haug (born 1946) and Tom Schönherr (born 1954) drew attention to themselves from the 1970s onwards before eventually launching “Phoenix” in 1987. Haug and Schönherr approach their mission like the legendary bird, which repeatedly emerges from the ashes to reach new heights, never resting and continually undergoing regeneration.

They design products that spontaneously excite while also functioning perfectly and being environmentally friendly. Phoenix Design perform the balancing act between functionality and “magic”, as the two creative minds would say, for major brands from the fields of living, consumer electronics, telecommunications, building services and bathrooms. The Phoenix Design team (which currently comprises two dozen employees), have developed more than ten series and over 300 products for Hansgrohe. In doing so, have created beacons of innovation.

Phoenix creates emotive design

This requires intimate familiarity with the requirements of the user.

“We consistently focus on the user's needs.” (Tom Schönherr)

“In 500 years' time”, said Managing Partner Tom Schönherr, “people will be going to museums and will perceive the ‘everyday objects’ of today as the culture of the 21st century.” Phoenix Design designs products and ranges that work, that are fun to use and, notably, that protect the environment. “We focus on intuitive interaction, always with the aim of transforming the brand identity into a touching experience.” The innovators frequently succeed in achieving a balance between functionality and magic. These days, product design and the design of digital interfaces are closely interlinked, which explains why over a third of the 60 employees are currently involved in Interaction Design.

Raindance and lots of other best-sellers

If you shower with a hansgrohe product or use a hansgrohe mixer, then you are enjoying a product that was designed by Phoenix Design. In 2003 the Stuttgart designers were involved in the launch of hansgrohe's best-seller “Raindance”, amongst other products. With its large spray disc and short, ergonomic handle, the proportions of this hand shower totally defied convention. Raindance caused such a big stir in the sanitary industry that you could even say that the sensuous Raindance rain shower reinvented the market for shower products. Recently, the shower range was enhanced with the addition of an extra functional feature, guaranteeing ultimate ease of use and a more enjoyable experience for both bathroom and kitchen users: Select technology.
